What Sazerac’s acquisition streak tells brand and commercial teams about where the largest private spirits company sees the next decade

Sazerac is a privately held spirits company based in Louisville, Kentucky. It owns Buffalo Trace, Blanton’s, Weller, Fireball, Southern Comfort, and a portfolio spanning several hundred brands. It does not publish financial results. On 17 August 2026, it signed a binding agreement to acquire Au Vodka, the Welsh flavoured vodka and RTD brand, in a deal Sky News reported at up to £500 million. The following Wednesday, it launched Dalho, a new soju brand, into the US market.

Those two moves in the same week are the latest additions to a pattern that has been building since May 2024. In that time, Sazerac has completed the acquisition of BuzzBallz (May 2024), Western Son Vodka and Svedka Vodka (both 2025), Dirty Shirley (March 2026), Garrard County Distilling at a court-ordered auction (June 2026), and now Au Vodka. It has taken equity stakes in 818 Tequila (Kendall Jenner’s brand, April 2026) and SipMargs (the Alix Earle-backed RTD margarita, May 2026). It also made an unsolicited approach to Brown-Forman – owner of Jack Daniel’s – that was publicly rejected in July 2026 as “not actionable.”

The pattern is specific enough to read as a deliberate strategy rather than opportunistic deal flow. Every completed deal fits one of two profiles: RTD-adjacent brands targeting convenience and impulse channels, or new drinking categories the company doesn’t currently own. The failed Brown-Forman bid is the exception – a traditional spirits M&A move that didn’t land. Everything that has landed is something else entirely.
