Republican Congresswoman Claudia Tenney introduced legislation on 6 July 2026 directing the US Trade Representative to initiate a formal investigation into Canadian provincial restrictions on the importation and distribution of American alcoholic beverages. The bill – formally titled the Combating Attacks on our National Alcoholic Drinks by Allies Act, and styled as the CANADA Act – requires the USTR to begin a Section 301 investigation under the Trade Act of 1974 within 30 days of enactment, to determine whether Canadian provinces’ actions constitute discriminatory trade practices that burden or restrict US commerce.
