Tilray is closing the Terrapin brewery that made it one of America’s most loved craft beer brands: what Project 420 means

Tilray Brands has confirmed it will cease brewing operations at Terrapin Beer Company’s Athens, Georgia facility on 25 September 2026. Production is being transferred to other breweries within Tilray’s network. The taproom, beer garden, warehouse, and repack operations at the Newton Bridge Road site in Athens will remain open. In a statement to trade media, Tilray described the decision as part of “ongoing efforts to optimise our brewing network and support our long-term operating model.”

The Terrapin closure is part of a broader restructuring programme disclosed in Tilray’s annual report filed with the SEC on 28 July 2026, internally called Project 420. The programme names multiple brewing facilities for consolidation: alongside Terrapin, Redhook, Atwater, Hop Valley, and Revolver are also cited. Tilray expects the restructuring initiatives to be largely complete by the end of fiscal year 2027. The Atwater Brewery in Detroit was already sold back to its founder Mark Rieth in June 2026 for an undisclosed sum – the first completed disposal under the project.
