The FSSAI enforcement action now covers Old Monk as well as United Spirits and Inbrew

United Spirits Limited (USL), the Indian subsidiary of Diageo, has filed a writ petition in the Bombay High Court challenging a prohibition order issued by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI). The petition, filed on 1 August 2026, challenges a FSSAI order dated 29 June 2026 that prohibited the sale of McDowell’s No. 1 Rum manufactured at USL’s Baramati plant in Maharashtra over alleged labelling non-compliance. USL confirmed in a regulatory stock exchange filing that it believes its product labels fully comply with the current applicable legal and regulatory framework and are consistent with long-standing industry practice. The company confirmed the enforcement action carries no material operational or financial impact and that the matter is sub judice.
