Rémy Cointreau’s first quarter of organic growth in two years: What the Cognac recovery actually looks like from the inside

Rémy Cointreau published its Q1 FY2026-27 sales on 29 July 2026 – the quarter covering April, May, and June 2026. Total sales of €223.2 million were up 1.3% organically. It is the first quarter of organic growth the company has reported since FY2023-24. That context matters enormously: this is not a particularly impressive quarter in absolute terms, but it is a meaningful inflection point in a company that has spent two years in decline and is now building its strategy around the assumption that the worst of the correction is behind it.

Understanding what Rémy Cointreau does requires understanding that it is not a conventional spirits company. It is a portfolio of premium and ultra-premium brands – Rémy Martin cognac, Louis XIII, Cointreau, The Botanist gin, Bruichladdich Islay single malt, Mount Gay rum, and Telmont Champagne – where the ambition is consistently to operate at higher price points than competitors, to produce in controlled geographic environments, and to build brand equity over decades rather than quarters. That model produces very high gross margins when volumes are growing, and very sharp operating leverage in reverse when they are not. The FY2025-26 downturn – which took reported sales from €1,268.5 million in FY2022-23 to €935.3 million in FY2025-26 – was exactly that leverage in reverse: a combination of US inventory correction, China market weakness, and tariff pressure compressing a model that depends on consistent premium volume.

Q1 FY2026-27 is the first quarter in which that model appears to be turning the corner. The question for brand managers and strategy teams tracking Rémy Cointreau as a competitor or category bellwether is not whether +1.3% organic growth is impressive – it is not – but what is actually driving it, whether those drivers are sustainable, and what the trajectory tells you about the premium spirits market more broadly.

Cognac is the whole story – and that is a structural choice, not an accident
