Pernod Ricard has withdrawn its petition to the Delhi High Court challenging India’s demand for approximately $314 million in back taxes linked to the alleged undervaluation of Scotch whisky imports. A Delhi High Court order confirmed the case “is dismissed as withdrawn,” with Pernod Ricard electing to pursue the “statutory alternative remedy of appeal” – meaning the dispute will continue through the tax authority’s internal appeals process rather than through court proceedings. The withdrawal does not constitute an admission of liability or a payment of the disputed sum. Pernod Ricard has not commented on the strategic reasoning behind the change in approach.
