Novo Nordisk Is Evaluating a Once-Yearly Semaglutide Implant. Why That Matters for the Drinks Industry.

Novo Nordisk has agreed to conduct a non-exclusive internal evaluation of NPM-139, a miniature subcutaneous semaglutide implant developed by California-based biopharmaceutical company Vivani Medical, designed for once- or twice-yearly chronic weight management dosing. The agreement was announced by Vivani Medical via SEC Form 8-K filing and GlobeNewswire press release on 7 July 2026. No financial terms were disclosed and no exclusivity provisions apply – Novo Nordisk is being granted access to evaluate the technology without any commitment to license, acquire, or develop it further. Vivani retains full freedom to approach other partners with the same asset.
