Germany’s Finance Ministry has proposed a 20% increase in the excise tax on spirits from 2027, according to a draft bill cited by German news network Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland. The proposal would raise the tax on pure alcohol from €13.03 per litre to €15.64, generating an estimated €400 million annually for the federal government. The measure also covers sparkling wine and alcopops, while beer and still wine would remain unaffected under the current proposal.
