Diageo files court challenge over India rum ban – adding to the FSSAI and bottle marking disputes already in progress

Diageo has taken its challenge to India’s rum product ban to court, reported on 14 August 2026 by Indian regulatory sources. The action relates to the August 2026 enforcement by Indian authorities prohibiting the sale of certain Diageo/United Spirits rum products, which the company described as non-compliant with bottle marking requirements. The court filing is the legal escalation of an enforcement dispute that began with the FSSAI flavouring action in early August and extended to the bottle marking seizure we covered in our news report on 11 August.
