Champagne has set its 2026 harvest limit at the lowest level in the modern era outside of Covid

The Comité Champagne (CIVC), the body that governs the Champagne appellation and represents both growers and houses, has set the marketable yield limit for the 2026 harvest at 8,800kg per hectare – equivalent to approximately 250 million bottles. The decision was announced on 23 July 2026. It is the fourth consecutive annual cut to the marketable yield, and the lowest level set in the modern era of the appellation with the exception of 2020’s Covid-driven anomaly, when the limit was reduced to 8,000kg/ha as sales collapsed. The 2025 limit was 9,000kg/ha; 2024 was 10,000kg/ha; 2023 was 11,400kg/ha; 2022 – the post-pandemic boom year – was 12,000kg/ha.
