The total value of vineyard land transactions in Bordeaux fell from €343 million in 2022 to €96 million in 2025, according to data from France’s Fédération Nationale des SAFER – the official land agency that tracks all French agricultural land transactions. SAFER president Thierry Bussy described the market as “effectively stalled” and characterised the current situation as structural restructuring rather than a temporary downturn. Separately, annual shipments from Bordeaux producers fell below three million hectolitres for the first time in decades, reaching 2.98 million hectolitres in the twelve months to the end of March 2026 – a decline of 12% year on year, according to French regional newspaper Sud-Ouest.
