Wine Australia, the statutory body for Australia’s wine export sector, published its annual Export Report on 30 July 2026, confirming that Australian wine exports fell 7% in value to A$2.30 billion and 6% in volume to 598 million litres in the 12 months ended June 2026. This is the first time export volume has fallen below 600 million litres since 2004 – a 22-year low. Wine Australia attributed the decline to a historic downturn in global wine consumption, which it described as having fallen to its lowest level since 1961, compounded by difficult trading conditions across Australia’s three largest export markets: mainland China, the United Kingdom, and the United States, all of which posted declines over the year.
